JOHN BERGER DRAWINGS

British art critic John Berger was also a novelist and poet whose series Ways of Seeing, aired by the BBC, made him famous. But his drawings, an important part of his oeuvre, had been less explored until the publication of this book, a companion to a New York show that took place in 1994.

“Words, images, and their relationship are at the heart pf John’s life. But his drawings are silent as a whispered secret of love. They seem to have been made very fast, as if they were meant to outrun language ; or on the contrary very slowly, erased and redone, almost a revenge against words,  each stroke underlining language’s inadequacy.”
